From the home page: „Exact Audio Copy is a so called audio grabber for audio CDs using standard CD and DVD-ROM drives. The main differences between EAC and most other audio grabbers are:
With other audio grabbers you usually need to listen to every grabbed wave because they only do jitter correction. Scratched CDs read on CD-ROM drives often produce distortions. But listening to every extracted audio track is a waste of time. Exact Audio Copy conquer these problems by making use of several technologies like multi-reading with verify and AccurateRip.“
I had badly scratched CDs that would give bad copies (skipping, high-pitched noises) when ripped with any other program I tried. With EAC it took long to rip them, but the copies were OK. Since then this is the only ripper I use and it has never failed.
You can set it up that it uses freedb to recognize CDs and LAME for compressing - voila: from CD to tagged mp3 in one go.
The Hifidelio itself of course can also RIP your CDs, but in some cases like scratched CDs this may be the better solution.
